The GPS said we traveled a total of 8,962 miles.
The camper was set up a total of 26 times. This includes the set up prior to depart and when we got home. That's a lot of pop-up cranking! We reduced the set-up time down to about 8-10 minutes.
We were in a total of 19 RV type parks and 1 campground (Unicoi State Park in the north Georgia).
Our trip lasted a total of 5 weeks and 5 days (40 days). 29 nights were spent in the camper and 11 nights at my sister Barb's house in New York.
Hottest Temperature: 107 degrees in Rapid City, South Dakota
Coolest Temperature: 36 degrees in West Yellowstone, Montana. I was amazed by the 40-50 degree temperature change here overnight. We were in T-Shirts during the day (in the 80's) and running the space heaters and in sweatshirts overnight!
We used a bag of ice and a gallon of water almost every day.
We visited or drove through 22 amazing states (including Florida). The beauty of this country is overwhelming. I only wish I could have walked through them all instead of speeding by so much.
We were all amazed at how big our house seemed when when we got home. So much space!!!
This is interesting ~ I love to know the numbers. Did you calculate the gas consumption? How much more gas does the van use when hauling the camper? Did you find any big variances in the costs of gas or food along the way?
ReplyDeleteAll that aside, I feel sure this is one experience none of you will soon forget, but being home, being able to hug a palm tree again, and sleeping in your own beds and seeing Baxter smile and do his Happy Dance is priceless as well. Welcome Home.
Mom, at the beginning of the trip we did a mpg check and came up with about 17-18 mpg. The average mpg for the van without the camper is about 23-25 mpg. Gas was about $1 to $1.50 more expensive in California. All the other states were about the same except for Georgia which is always less expensive. Food seemed about the same wherever we went.
DeleteWhat was the hiking elevation/decent on the Smith trail you climbed to the falls? People are wondering? Did you ever take time to thank the troops on your trip across the country?

Hi there. Mike and I did not have a GPS activated to have the info that you asked about. Sorry. I did check one spot online and it said there is a 970 elevation gain. We did take time to thank the troops. Please check the blog entries for Mount Rushmore. As a NAVY veteran, I was invited to go up on stage toward the end of the lighting ceremony. It was an emotional time.
