After departing Arkansas we entered Oklahoma at about lunch time. Wow, was I EVER glad we waited! The Oklahoma rest areas have Tee Pees over their picnic tables. How cool is that...
We came all the way across Oklahoma and are staying at a KOA in Elk City, OK. This is 50 miles from the Texas state line.
On the way here we saw some really cool HUGE windmills...
That should have been our first clue. Oklahoma had wind, and lots of it. Even the trees along I-40 are all arched over in one direction - leaning to the north.
The KOA was located conveniently along I-40. It was convenient for us and also for the wind. But, by early evening the wind had died down and we had a nice grilled chicken dinner with salads.
Off to bed we went. Much to our surprise the wind kicked up again at about 1:30am or so. Jen and I had trouble sleeping because we could hear the wind affecting our camper canopy. Also, unknown to us, the wind we were getting had changed direction. At 3:00am the canopy lifted off the ground and flipped up on top of the camper - poles and all. We sprang into action and together were able to get the canopy (undamaged) back down and rolled back up and stored. It was quite an adventure.
Today we are headed across Texas and then stopping in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

Enjoing your blog. Wishing you all the best. Do you get to the Grand Canyon tomarrow? Hope the wind has died down. Love you Barb
